Snow shoeing on Camrock Trail

There are so many fun things to do during a Cambridge winter. From cross country skiing to snow shoeing to sledding to skating to hiking and biking the Camrock County Park trails.

Rent your skis, snow shoes or fat tire bike from Camrock Café and Sport located conveniently in downtown Cambridge and just a few steps away from The Victorian.  Just stroll down Main Street, grab your skis, then hit the Camrock 1 trail entrance.  Enjoy the flat terrain meandering along Koshkonong Creek.  See the winter birds and wildlife along the way.

Like ice skating?  Grab your skates and enjoy the downtown skate rink located at West Side Park. There’s a beautiful warming house as well. Sip a coffee, tea or hot chocolate afterward at any of our fantastic coffee shops including The Daily Grind and Cambridge CoffeeHouse. Don’t forget the cookies.

Once Lake Ripley freezes, there’s a whole community of fishermen (and women) who set up huts that inhabit the lake and are ready to catch the big one. More so than the big catch, it’s a social thing. One of our favorite winter activities is to walk across a frozen Lake Ripley. It’s fun to stop and talk to those who set up shop on the lake and see how they rig up their fishing holes.  Anyone can access Lake Ripley at Ripley Park beach.

Frozen Lake Ripley is also a favorite place for snowmobilers.  Watch the speedsters zoom across the lake.

The Dip For Dozer fundraiser is a wonderful event hosted at Ripley Park held on the 2nd Saturday every February. A huge hole is cut into the ice where teams of people dress up in crazy themed costumes and jump, dive or cannonball into the freezing cold lake water. This is all done in honor of a high school football star lost too soon. The money raised goes to the Dozer 52 Scholarship Fund and over 150 people do it, believe it or not.

The beauty of staying at The Victorian of Cambridge is enjoying all the fun area activities and then being able to relax in the comfort, coziness and warmth of your very own beautifully furnished home with 2 fireplaces and plenty of room for your friends and family.  If you prefer to hang out and watch movies in front of the fireplace with your family?  Make your own hot cocoa and cuddle up!
