The sun is shining brighter, the ice is melting and the air is fresh. It’s almost SPRING-time! I love this time of the year. We start to get calls from our “regulars” excited to plan their summer vacation.
Visiting the Victorian of Cambridge in the summer-time is magical. It’s the perfect spot to slow down, relax, spread out and breathe. Lake Ripley, the local drive-in, a visit to Madison or one of our state parks and local farms are some of the highlights.
The sparkling gem of our area is Lake Ripley. It’s a clean, clear spring-fed lake great for swimming, paddling, boating and extraordinary for fishing. Lake Ripley Park is a fantastic spot to bring the family. It is so close to the Victorian and includes a huge beach, basketball courts, tennis courts, picnic areas, very clean and new bath houses and a fun playground! Spend the day at the beach and then enjoy a barbeque in the back yard of The Victorian!
Our local farms have so much to offer!
- Cedar Stone Farm is just up the road from The Victorian and hosts a world-renowned sheep herding event. Trainers from all over the world come to compete. This is their fifth year hosting the event and is being held on June 14th to June 17th .
- Bring the kids to Hinchley’s Dairy Farm for a tour! Your family or group will be able to experience daily farm life first hand. All FEED and Bottles are provided without extra charge. Our parks are epic!
Aztalan State Park is a hidden gem! Don’t take our word for it, see all of the great Trip Advisor reviews. Aztalan State Park is the site of a ceremonial and residential Native American town established in 1100 AD (approximately). This site has provided insights into ancient agriculture and gardening. Here’s more information. This ancient site is located just 15 minutes from The Victorian!
Camrock County Park is within walking distance of The Victorian has some of the best mountain biking trails in the region. The Battle at Camrock is held on June 3rd this year. Not only does the Battle of CamRock have unique race start times, they also have music, inflatable play areas for the kids, lots of food and large cash prizes for all classes. They have a great race course with a separate race course just for the kids all within a festival atmosphere at beautiful CamRock County Park. The park is also a wonderful walking, biking and running trail.
There are so many summer events that bring fire, food, music and so much culture to our area! Enjoy Jefferson County Tourism’s link to these events. Some of our favorites are the Midwest Fire Fest held in downtown Cambridge and the Lake Ripley Ride held at Lake Ripley Park.
- If you like fire, art and music, you’ll LOVE Midwest Fire Fest held on 7/28 and 7/29.
- The Lake Ripley Ride offers 4 different routes from 16 to 62 miles long and is the same weekend on 7/28!
